Joint Mobilization

Joint Mobilization

Mobilization of a joint is a movement performed by the therapist using a graded degree of force to open and mobilize the surfaces of a stiff joint.

Joint mobilization is useful when treating painful and stiff joints, muscle spasms, and diseases that progressively limit joint movement.

The types of joint mobilizations that we perform are:

Active Release Technique (ART) – a soft tissue therapy or massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Precisely directed tension is applied with very specific patient movements.

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) – a type of flexibility therapy that improves muscle flexibility and strength. PNF is built on a series of exercises that stretch stiff or painful muscles in the body.

Manual Traction – the therapist uses his or her hands on the patient, with the body weight of the therapist providing traction.
