Dr. Sterling’s Gift Guide 2018
Happy Holidays my healthy friends!
Tis the season for being merry, giving gifts and showing your loved ones you care for their health. If you’re struggling with what to buy this season, then look no further I have got your back with my awesome gift guide for 2018. It’s going to make you look good, like you’re in the know and most importantly, that you have their health as your top priority. I lay out my top 10 gift ideas, (more like 20+ in total), who they’re for and why I like each item individually. I use every single one of these items personally to help me stay healthy and reach each of my health goals. Enjoy!
This is my favorite blender for smoothies, shakes and really anything that needs to be blended. It gets the job done and is one of the most efficient ways to get your daily servings of fruits and vegetables right off the bat. You can also get your good fats from blending avocados, coconut oil, peanut/almond butter into your drinks. As a vegan, consuming a wide variety of protein sources from a variety of protein powders and bars are some of the best ways to get the right amount of protein that you need in any given day. Quick list of WHY I like the Blendtec: It’s easy to clean, blends just about anything, sturdy, enough power to blend thick/frozen stuff, lots of variations from the company.
2) Vegan Protein Powder
My current 3-4 favorite brands are as follows in no particular order:
Vega Sport – Good option for active individuals. Contains pea protein, pumpkin protein, sunflower seeds protein, alfalfa protein for a total of 30g of protein per serving.
Da Vinci Labs – pea protein isolate, hemp and flax seed protein. Added bonus of probiotics. About 23g of protein per serving.
Ultra Lean Protein Powder – Designed more so for people who want more than just another source of protein. It’s more expensive, but has vitamins: A,B,C,D,E and other nutrients for a more complete meal-replacement type of protein shake. Mostly Pea Protein.
Garden of Life (Sport) – Favorite option for athletes. Peas, bean, lentils and cranberry seeds for their variety of protein sources. What else is added is why I like this one the most as an athlete. This powder contains 2 Billioin CFU of probiotics, a full profile of essential amino acids, 5.5g of BCAAS, 5g of Glutamine which are all components that help muscle growth and recovery.
My ultimate favorite items that will always be in my pantry or in my travel bag with me. Any time I feel under the weather, get that tickle in the back of my throat or feel less than 100% I start adding this into my daily regimen of vitamins.
The package consists of: Imu-Stim 1, Imu-Stim 3, Vitamin A and “Transfer Factor Multi-Immune”: The first two both consist of different extracts and types of echinacea. The plant echinacea has been shown to positively enhance your body’s immune system and its ability to fight off germs as well as increase your white blood cell count, which fights infections.
Vitamin A: Very important for immune tolerance throughout our digestive tract and gut lining. It increases our availability of T-regulatory cells (good guys) and also reduces inflammation.
“Transfer Factor Multi-Immune”: This supplement is the special bonus of this package. It’s a little pricey, but once I tell you what’s in it, you’ll understand why you’ll want to have at least one bottle around at all times. This supplement contains a long list of ingredients, all of which help to enhance your immune system and fight off infections, bacteria and foreign invaders into your system. As labeled by the company, the “NK Maximizer Bioplex” proprietary blend promotes healthy NK cell levels and immune modulation, engulfs foreign particles in blood stream and tissues and prevents buildup of harmful minerals that deteriorate your immune system. The “Macrophage and T-Cell Pro Blend” is a proprietary blend that activates white blood cells (macrophages and neutrophils), speeds up recovery of damaged tissue and promotes healthy T-Cell function, cellular replication and liver function.
Lastly their “Healthy Cell GTP” proprietary blend promotes healthy cell division, triggers apoptosis (planned cellular death) in abnormal cells and contains effective antioxidant properties. Zinc and Selenium are are important immune boosting nutrients which are added to round out this supplement’s immune boosting power. What all of those confusing terms above means is that this is one unique and powerful immune boosting supplement. It will beat just about anything else you have in your pantry and if you don’t get it for yourself, get it for a loved one and tell them this is all they’ll ever need. You won’t be lying either.
4) Facial Products
Face Cleanser: AcquaCure Coconut Milk Cleanse
Omega 3 Face Oil: Plant-based formula to reduce wrinkles and hydrate the skin.
Vitamin C Serum: antioxidant, anti-aging benefits, strengthens and protects the skin from UVA and UVB sun rays.
Sunscreen: Supergoop! – Mineral sunscreen that absorbs into your skin without the oily look. Additional antioxidants and further protection from the sun.
Indian Clay Mask: 100% Calcium Bentonite Clay
5) Sleep masks/Ear plugs
Sleep might be as important as being awake. Your body recovers, regenerates, grows and repairs when you sleep. The body gets the deepest
sleep when there’s pure darkness. Even a crack in the blind that lets in sunlight can prevent the body from producing sufficient levels of melatonin to get your body to a deep enough sleep. It’s soft, it travels well, you can wash it and doesn’t mess with your eyelashes when you have it on.
Instead of a sound machine or some other contraption to help you sleep, I pop in these little ear plugs and it drowns out most of the annoying startling sounds that might keep you awake. I buy women’s sized ear plugs because of the smaller size. I have small ears and the worst feeling is waking up in the middle of the night with sore ears.
6) Sugar Free Pre-workout
Pulse by Legion is my favorite pre-workout. No artificial sweeteners, dyes or flavorings, sweetened with stevia, no other stimulants besides caffeine, other nutrients scientifically proven to help improve strength, endurance, focus and mood. It’s really the only pre-workout I use anymore. They are a great company run by great guys who want to help you work out and achieve your best physical body in the healthiest way possible. I also appreciate how much information they provide on each ingredient in all of their products.
7) Smart Shake Workout Bottle
I love all of the multiple compartments in one bottle. I can bring 3 different powders/supplements/snacks in one bottle. I can bring
protein powder, pre-workout, post-workout, electrolytes, snacks, vitamins, etc.
I love all Apple products and this is my favorite apple product. I didn’t think I’d like them at first because I didn’t like the normal wired apple headphones that much. Fun fact: If I lost my airpods today, I would go out and buy new ones tomorrow. They’re that convenient and amazing. It helps me personally stay productive because I can listen to music, podcasts or take phone calls while multitasking or doing just about anything else. The headphones are so light I sometimes forget I even have them in.
I wear suits at work, it’s part of the professionalism we like to represent at our office, as well as being doctors. “Don’t dress for others. Dress for yourself. Clothes
should be an extension of what you represent and what you feel inside.” Suits work for me and I like what suitsupply has to offer. They’re not ridiculously priced, but still a reasonable amount of money. It’s a notch above Zara, and on par with higher brands. They use the same materials as fancy brand, but are less expensive in the ($500-$800) range. If you like the brand, they also have more than suits, they have a dress casual line including pants, jackets, shoes, glasses, ties, belts and more.
10) Workout Attire
Shoes – Nike: Training/Gym shoes – Best for a normal gym day where you might run on the treadmill, lift some heavy weight and finish up with a yoga class. The most versatile and most supportive shoe.
Heavy Lifiting: Used for Power lifters who put these on next to the squat rack and take them off there too.
Running: For those who are mostly running outside or inside on treadmills. These would work for lighter weight lifting as well. Nike Epic Reacts are also my pick for the best comfort/casual shoe.
Nike VaporFly 4%: For those of you who are into marathons or long distance running.
Adidas: Running Shoe – Another running shoe that isn’t Nike. Known for it’s comfort and cushion. Might be worn more as a casual shoe because it’s so comfortable, but it’s designed for runners and has amazing cushion and propulsion for runners. This shoe would also work for light weight lifting. Adidas Ultraboost
Workout clothes: Lululemon / Nike / Adidas – These are all very comparable and come down to your style or comfort preferences. My current favorite is Lululemon because they seem to NEVER wear out. Almost to the point where I want them to wear out so I can go out and buy new workout clothes. I also like the range of basics and simple colors and designs.
That concludes my guide to buying the best and healthiest gifts out there. I use every single one of these, but let me know which one of these were your favorite. If you do buy some of these then comment which ones you purchased and what your gift recipient thought of them. I hope you guys have an amazing holiday season.
